In the frenzy of Kickstarting Noble Armada: Lost Worlds, I have gotten behind on chronicling the epic adventures of RPGBaby. In fact, since I last wrote she leveled up to RPGToddler! Now two years and nine months, old, she regularly astounds me with insights far better than my own. Here are two that, for reasons that will become obvious, I have labeled 0 and 1.
0. Last night we were working on subtraction, and suddenly she knocked all the pennies to the floor. At the same time, a word that sounded like “serro” passed her lips. I asked her to repeat it, and she had actually said “Zero” to indicate no coins were left. Turns out RPGMom had gotten her a book from the library about zero, and RPGToddler had taken right to it. I wonder how long it will take her to apply the concept to RPGDad himself …
1. We’ve been working on spelling her name for a while. She can recognize it if she sees it, and if I spell it for her, she knows what it says. However, she has never spelled it herself. Tonight we were making letters. I wrote down her name and then hid it. I then asked her to spell her name, and for the first time she did – all correct and unprompted. This is the first word she can reliably spell on her own, making it definitely #1 in my book.
How long before I can teach her to count in hexidecimal? I hope less than 0A years …
